Food Program

Vinnie's Hope

Vinnies Hope is the shortest route between surplus food and those who need it most.

St. Vincent de Paul-Twin Cities partners with national and local food manufacturers, grocery wholesalers, produce and meat purveyors to distribute surplus food to the hungry in our communities. Vinnie’s Hope food program, launched in 2015, has collected, safely stored and promptly reallocated nearly 17 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food.
An inspired supply chain
Work to serve our neighbors in poverty begins in the heart … and accomplished through operations and logistics expertise to reach people where they are in the least possible time.

The right place at the right time

The most important link in St. Vincent’s critical supply chain are those we serve: Individuals and families, seniors and children, those new to poverty and people who have struggled for generations. Here are a few ways we’re impacting their lives:
Food distributions
As the crisis of food insecurity surged across Minnesota in 2020, Vinnie’s Hope responded by quickly recalibrating our needs with wholesalers, retailers and foodservice vendors. Volunteer packing events and drive-thru food distributions were hastily convened at inner-city and suburban churches, community centers and the Minneapolis Thrift Store.
Additionally, SVdP partnered with the USDA’s Farm to Families food program that helped us speed healthy meals to thousands of struggling families throughout the State.
Food shelves
The need for Minnesota food shelves continues to increase. 2020 marked the tenth consecutive year with more than three million visits and the number may top four million soon.* Vinnie’s Hope partners with outstate and Twin City food pantries to stock their shelves, produce bins, refrigerators and freezers on a weekly basis.
Community meals
Shelters, churches, encampments and other group sites utilize the same healthy foods to prepare meals for those who would otherwise go without.
