Volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul

Whether sorting clothes or books, assisting a family on the eve of eviction, packing food boxes or loading them into cars … St. Vincent de Paul volunteers improve the lives of our clients, customers and communities. The impact on volunteers ranges from surprising to amazing! Whether you interact directly with clients or volunteer behind the scenes, serving individuals and families struggling with hunger, unemployment or financial distress is mutually rewarding.
We’re asking
It’s not that there aren’t enough ways to serve, or causes that require action. Many people don’t volunteer because it’s too time-consuming to confirm a good fit – they’re not sure they have the right skills, time or even share the goals of the organization. Sometimes, a person just needs to be asked. Will you help us help others?

Consider St. Vinnie's

Thrift Stores volunteering
The reputations of St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores are critical to the sustainability of our mission. Volunteers are fundamental to customer satisfaction by ensuring our stores are:
  • clean and well organized
  • stocked with quality clothing, housewares, books and furniture
  • committed to customer dignity and respect
  • priced so customers can afford
Community action
Whether the inner city or small town … a neighboring suburb or your neighbor down the street … poverty isn’t always visible.

This is where we put Hope in Action®:
  • food packing & giveaway distributions
  • clothing & food delivery from partner organizations to SVdP
  • events like Friends of the Poor Walk
  • conference food pantries
Youth service projects
For schools or religious organizations that want their young people to appreciate the importance of volunteering, St. Vincent de Paul is the perfect place to serve. Here students learn the value of their efforts and the difference it makes in peoples’ lives.
Christmas at St. Vinnie's
Christmas is a special time at St. Vincent de Paul. After some hot chocolate and a photo with Santa, our youngest clients inspect and choose their favorite toy collected by high school volunteers. See December’s Calendar of Events for this year’s date and time.
Join a St. Vincent de Paul Conference
Serving as SVdP Conference member is volunteering as you’ve never seen it. Also known as Vincentians, team members follow St. Vincent’s direction: “Go to the poor, there you will find God”. Learn more about Becoming a Member.
